What is a cock ring?
A cock ring is a sex toy or adult novelty. It can be made out of a variety of materials such as metals, silicone, rubber, or leather. It is worn at the base of the penis primarily to slow the blood flowing from the erectile tissue of the penis back to the body.
How does a cock ring work and what are its effects?
A cock ring works like a dam. The purpose of a cock-ring is that it keeps the blood in the erectile tissue in the penis allowing a man to maintain and harden an erection for a longer period of time. It also produces a feeling of engorgement making the wearer feel that his penis is bigger in size.
Because of its damming effect, cock rings are sometimes used by men with erectile dysfunction to help produce and maintain an erection. In these cases, the cock ring is used in conjunction with a penis pump.
Are there different types of cock rings?
As mentioned above, cock rings can be made out of a variety of materials. Most of them are stretchable which gives the user a little more comfort. There are also cock rings with vibrations or protrusions attached. These protrusions and vibrators are meant to stimulate the user’s penis, scrotum, or perineum. Other models have protrusions and vibrators aimed at stimulating his partner’s clitoris or anus during sexual intercourse.
There are also cock rings which include rings that the user puts around his scrotum. Called triple-crown or triple cock rings, these sex toys keep the scrotum away from the body. The scrotum normally retracts toward the body during or right before a man has his orgasm or ejaculation. The effect is that by restraining the scrotum, a man may prolong the moments before he reaches ejaculation.
Are there health risks associated with cock rings?
Health risks which occur happen because some users do not know how to use cock ring. A cock ring should not be worn too tightly or for an extended period of time. Keeping a cock ring on for a long time may result in a painful medical emergency called priapism. Priapism occurs when the penis remains erect for a long period of time and does not return to its flaccid state despite the absence of physical and psychological stimulation. It can result into penile gangrene which will require the amputation of the penis.
